The antisemitic politician who discovered he is Jewish

5 May 2015

BBC's From Our Own Correspondent series has a feature on Csanad Szegedi, the former no.2 in Hungary's far right Jobbik movement who discovered three years ago that he is, in fact, Jewish.

Szegedi was one of Jobbik's most outspoken antisemites, regularly making statements that incited hatred against Jews and blamed them for Hungary's problems. However, after discovering his Jewish ancestry, Szegedi left the party, became an observant Jew and has visited Israel and Auschwitz, where much of his family was murdered.

He now gives talks to schoolchildren where he warns them against extremism and antisemitism.
