CST is delighted that our former Chief Executive and current board member Richard Benson was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list. Richard joined CST as a volunteer security officer in 1993 and became a full-time member of staff in 1998 as Head of Security. He was CST’s Chief Executive from 2001 until 2013 when he joined CST’s board of trustees. Under his leadership, CST became one of Britain’s foremost Jewish charities and a global leader in community-based security work.

CST condemns the suspected terrorist attack in Finsbury Park on Sunday night, in which a man drove a van into a crowd of Muslims standing on a pavement near to two mosques in the area.

Following the tragic Manchester and London attacks, which left 30 people dead, two hundred CST security volunteers participated in vigorous, specially designed security training scenarios. CST’s staff and volunteers are fully committed to the task at hand, confronting the threats facing both the Jewish community and our wider British society.

The horrific terrorist attacks in London and Manchester in recent weeks have opened a debate about whether this country doing enough to tackle terrorism, and what else can be done to stop young men (and it is usually men) from going out to kill as many people as they can in the name of radical Islamist ideology.

CST hosted the 14th annual workshop for specialists on the far right last week at a central London location. The workshop brings together global expert groups and researchers who focus on the far right to analyse current threats and the state of the far right today.

CST was privileged to assist the Belz community in Stamford Hill with the first visit by Rabbi Yissachar Dov Rokeach to the UK in 23 years. The Belz community approached CST just under two months before the trip, seeking assistance. There were numerous highly detailed planning meetings which led to Belz, CST and two commercial security companies working together in close partnership before and throughout the visit.
