CST strives to constantly ensure that volunteers, as well as those that teach them the skills to protect our Jewish community, are constantly kept up to date with the latest security principles and knowledge. CST hosts training sessions throughout the year, for all our volunteers, instructors and members of the community, to keep our Jewish community safe.
Psychological Resilience Training: Preparing the Jewish Community to recover emotionally from crisis

As part of a push to improve the overall resilience of the Jewish community, CST recently organised and hosted two full-day Psychological Resilience Conferences, one in Manchester and one in London. The aim of the conferences was to give communal organisations the tools with which to prepare themselves in the event of a major incident or crisis.

In 2003, the Jewish community in Istanbul was devastated when two truck bombs targeted the Bet Israel and Neve Shalom synagogues, killing 25 people. Many of the injuries were caused by shattered glass. In order to learn from this terrible experience, CST set up the Protective Windows Project to ensure that communal buildings’ windows would be able to withstand any such attack.

CST was delighted to host the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth, Ephraim Mirvis, to the CST Head Office in London today. Chief Rabbi Mirvis met CST staff, who work to protect our Jewish community all year round, to discuss the crucial work CST does and to speak to the staff, including those based in the Leeds and Manchester offices, to thank them for their work.

Over the past few months, CST has developed a new project working with synagogue bodies, reaching out to rabbonim, chairs and other community leaders, to develop their understanding of CST’s work to keep our Jewish community safe and to encourage them to help CST in its mission to give the Jewish community the freedom and confidence to thrive. Called ‘Leading from the Front’, this project includes discussions on the mission of CST, crisis management for the Jewish community, and the role of CST's state-of-the-art national security control centre.

For the second time this year, CST welcomed a cross-Party delegation of MPs at the CST head office in London as the first stop of a wider Jewish community tour organised by the All Party Parliamentary Group Against Antisemitism (APPGA).

Last week, CST hosted a successful security training course for commercial security guarding company managers, directors and senior staff. CST recognises the importance of ongoing training and learning for security staff who help to protect our Jewish community.

The Home Secretary, Amber Rudd MP, was CST’s guest of honour at our Annual Dinner in central London this evening. The dinner is CST’s main fundraising event of the year and was attended by over 800 guests, including donors, politicians, Police officers, communal partners and other supporters of CST’s work protecting our Jewish community.

CST hosted its annual Metropolitan Police lunch on 23 June, with keynote speaker, Commissioner Cressida Dick. This annual event has for twenty consecutive years been held in the senior officers' dining room at Scotland Yard, a unique privilege for CST and our supporters. However, the Metropolitan Police have just moved to a new headquarters which does not have an equivalent facility. Therefore we held this year's lunch at a nearby hotel and we were pleased to welcome a record number of attendees. CST’s close working relationship with the Police is a vital part of our work to protect our community in these uncertain times and we were delighted to host Commissioner Dick during such a difficult period for the Police in London following several terrorist attacks in recent months.

CST is delighted that our former Chief Executive and current board member Richard Benson was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list. Richard joined CST as a volunteer security officer in 1993 and became a full-time member of staff in 1998 as Head of Security. He was CST’s Chief Executive from 2001 until 2013 when he joined CST’s board of trustees. Under his leadership, CST became one of Britain’s foremost Jewish charities and a global leader in community-based security work.

This week CST released the Annual Review 2016. The review is a chance to see the highlights of CST’s crucial work over the past year. CST received charitable status in 1994, and works to secure the Jewish community in the United Kingdom and fight antisemitism.

On the 9th July, the U.S Congress Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe introduced a resolution for decisive action to be taken to support and develop security for Jewish community groups across Europe. The resolution aims to tackle crisis “preparedness, prevention, mitigation, and response” for any antisemitic attacks which may occur.

This morning CST hosted an awareness conference for over 40 hate crime officers from the Metropolitan Police Service and other constabularies, as well as Police and Crime Commissioner, local authority and several Government departments’ Hate Crime specialists.
