Rabbi reveals Stamford Hill synagogue brawl was sparked by party dispute
26 March 2015
The Jewish Chronicle has reported that the fight at a synagogue in Stamford Hill, north London, on Saturday night was sparked by an argument at a nearby party.
The JC quotes Rabbi Maurice Davis as saying:
There was a party happening across the road. We think a Jewish boy at the party ran out and got into a fight with other party-goers on the street. He came into the shul and it got out of hand, that's when the other people smashed the windows.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed this, saying:
At this early stage, there is no suggestion that this was a far-right or extremist attack but rather the completely unacceptable actions of a drunken group.
It is alleged that one member of the group made antisemitic comments during the incident. Six people were arrested for public order offences and assault and have been bailed while investigations continue.
