Awful antisemitic abuse reported at Conservative Party Conference
9 October 2015
Instances of antisemitic abuse from protesters have been reported from outside the Conservative Party Conference, which took place in Manchester earlier this week. Witnesses have claimed that delegates were branded “Nazis” and one visibly Jewish delegate was told to “go back to Auschwitz”. The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated that they have “not received any reports” of antisemitism in relation to the conference, however the officers “policing the conference have been given clear direction to take action against any individual who goes beyond peaceful protest”.
One delegate reported to the Jewish News:
“There were some truly sickening scenes. I was called a Nazi c*** and witnessed a masked person spit on the ground beside an elderly couple waiting for a taxi. Anyone smartly dressed was a target for bullying.”
Stephen Woods, Chairman of the Conservative Sale East and Wythenshawe Association, told the Jewish Chronicle:
“The abuse we had to endure was despicable, with a number of protesters screaming ‘Jewish Tory scum, get back to Auschwitz.’ I have never heard such vile language. The whole incident left us all shaken up”
In addition to the reports of antisemitic rhetoric and physical intimidation, such as eggs being thrown at delegates, an antisemitic poster that alleges the Rothschild family control Westminster has been shared on Social Media.
