Worth the Waite – the neo-Nazi behind bars because of CST
12 August 2024
CST today welcomes the sentence given to Gareth Waite, a Wales-based neo-Nazi who CST identified and reported to counter-terrorism police in 2019.
Waite first came to CST’s attention due to several reasons, including having shared material from the far-right proscribed terrorist group, National Action, and for posting extreme, antisemitic, racist, and often violent content, evidence of which can be seen below. CST’s concerns led to a referral to our partners in UK counter-terrorism policing.
The subsequent investigation into Waite was led by Counter Terrorism Policing Wales, who discovered further evidence demonstrating Waite’s far-right extremism and hateful ideology. This included material that led to two counts of Waite possessing a document containing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.
CST wishes to express our deep appreciation to the UK’s counter-terrorism policing network, especially in this case to our friends at Counter Terrorism Policing Wales for their hard work and support; we note the often-unrecognised contribution that CT police make to the UK’s national security, and to the safety and security of our Jewish community. CST’s open-source intelligence work forms a core part of protecting our Jewish community. On a daily basis our team are tracking and monitoring UK-based extremist networks, making referrals to counter-terrorism police and ensuring that those who may wish to do harm to our community, are stopped. CST are proud of the contribution this work makes, not only to the safety and security of the Jewish community, but to all communities across the UK.
