The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) has today published ’Experiences and perceptions of antisemitism - Second survey on discrimination and hate crime against Jews in the EU’. This repeats and expands upon the Fundamental Rights Agency’s landmark 2012 survey on how Europe’s Jews, including Britain, experience and perceive antisemitism. It is the largest ever study of its kind worldwide and should, like its predecessor, be a key tool in the understanding of modern antisemitism.

In his first speech as the newly appointed Advisor on Combating Antisemitism, John Mann MP stated yesterday at the OSCE Human Dimension conference in Warsaw, which CST’s International Director Mike Whine MBE attended, that it is important that the UK Government be seen to be taking the lead in combating antisemitism.

CST welcomes over 30 CCTV contractors and the Police at second CCTV forum
This week, CST hosted over 30 CCTV contractors from across the United Kingdom at the second CCTV forum that CST has held. Through the Security Enhancement Project, CST has spent over £11 million on enhancing physical security measures at Jewish buildings throughout the UK, including CCTV. CST has also developed a national security control room, with direct CCTV access to hundreds of Jewish communal building across the UK.

CST is inundated daily with reports about antisemitism online – whether it be on social media sites, traditional websites or blogs. CST works hard to ensure that social media companies, such as Twitter and Facebook, are educated and trained in what constitutes antisemitism and works with global partners to combat antisemitic hate website wherever they may be. However, the popular site, Urban Dictionary, appears to have taken away the ability to remove, or even try to begin the process of removing, antisemitism from the internet, highlighting the lack of cooperation CST often faces when it comes to tackling hate against Jews online.
